At Imece, we have a variety of projects that we partake in. In 2018, we introduced the Solar Age Program, which came from a partnership with Barefoot College. Here, we invite various groups of immigrant and refugee women to our village so that they may learn to work with solar energy. By giving them a trade skill, we hope to give them a chance to develop a career, to become integrated and financially independent.

We also provide distribution of goods to unofficial refugee settlements throughout the İzmir region. We are connected with local official forces and are always on-call to provide help to people who get detained while trying to cross into Europe.

In addition, we provide a mobile education program to the children living in these settlements. Since some of the children living in here are unable to attend school, we provide various activities that teach them basic mathematics, Turkish language skills, and school etiquette. We hope these workshops can help prepare them for when their chance to enroll comes around. For the kids that do get a chance to attend school, we provide support for their families and a liaison between the families’ needs and the local authorities to ensure that they can continue their education.
